Helen V. Lindquist Jones

Helen V. Jones, 88, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2012, at Union Park Health Services in Des Moines, Iowa. A private burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Prairie City, Iowa. A visitation and memorial service is planned for family and friends on Saturday, September 29, 2012, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines, Iowa.

Helen was born in Decatur, Illinois on January 3, 1924, to Paul Baldwin Starr and Geraldine Isabel Williams. She moved to Des Moines as a child, where she resided most of her life. Helen loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her ever growing family.

Upon graduating from East High School in 1942, Helen worked at Drake University, Iowa Des Moines Bank. and Valley Bank in Des Moines. Through the years, and after her retirement, she was a member and an active volunteer in the AMVETS Post #2 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was given many honors for her hundreds of hours of service.

Helen was very proud to have grown up on the east side of Des Moines making many lifelong friends. The “Club Girls,” as they were called, met each month for over 40 years. She was also a member of the East High School Alumni Association, attending many of the events and reunions. She often talked of her upcoming 70th class reunion.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Starr Josten of West Des Moines; her son, Chris Lindquist of Des Moines; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Gerald Carter (Pat) of Hurst, Texas. Helen was preceded in death by her sisters, Pat Harvey (Ed) and Janet Rogers (Bill); and brother, Robert Carter (Gert).
