Service Details

Inger Elisabet Woods, 79, passed away Monday, September 10, 2012, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, after a long battle with breast cancer. Services will be held 10 a.m., Friday, September 14, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Born in Stockholm, Sweden, on January 23, 1933, Inger was the daughter of Erik and Elsa Malmstrom. She left her life and family in Sweden to marry Morris Woods of Murray, Iowa. During their 57 years of marriage, he took her back home to Stockholm 43 times. Inger was a proud Swedish citizen, a world traveler with Morris, and spent summers on the Mississippi River in their boat Inger named Valhalla.

She was a lover of books and the finer things in life. Inger and Morris were the epitome of parents and grandparents. They took their children and grandchildren snow skiing, boating, and on many travels in their motor home. Inger was a woman of impeccable style and class. She taught her family how to be a good friend and the importance of family dinners. She kept secrets sacred. The family was so close and stayed close because of her. She enjoyed decorating every room in her house for Christmas, and hosting parties from dinner parties to tailgating.

Survivors of Inger include her husband, Morris Woods; sister, Ylva “Pytta” (Jorgen) Berglund and niece Camilla; cousin, Kerstin (Ingvar) Lindberg; daughters, Susan Christine (Martin) Benskin and Carolyn Marie (Brian) Palmer; son, Mark Douglas (Jodi Lea) Woods; favorite grandson, Alexander (Kristina) Benskin; granddaughters, Christine Marie and Karoline Jewel Benskin and Keely Elisabet and Carly Suzanne Woods; great-granddaughter, Stella Marie Benskin; and nephews, Donny (Alicia) Knox and their daughters Amber and April, and Rory (Stacie) Knox. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Monica Elisabet; Morlbror (uncle), Ake; and Mosters (aunts), Agda and Lydia Pearson.

From the family, we have not only lost our mother but our queen.
