Service Details

Julie Diane Channon’s family was able to grant her wish of return home from the hospital before passing away Saturday, September 8, 2012.

Julie was born June 26, 1959, in Des Moines, to Richard, Sr., and Marilyn Channon. She received a degree in Medical Transcription from Des Moines Area Community College, and worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield for several years. Julie retired from the Des Moines Public Schools in 2005 after 25 years of service. She had a strong faith in God, and loved surrounding herself with family and friends. She also enjoyed playing dice. Julie’s greatest joy in life came from being a mother. She was a single mom and took great pride in raising her son and fulfilling the role of both mother and father. She was a very nurturing and loving woman, so it came naturally to her to help with all of the children in her family.

Julie is survived by her son, Joseph Channon; father, Richard Channon, Sr.; brother, Richard Channon, Jr.; sisters, Jacklyn Channon, Janet (Robert) Colvert and Joleen Channon; nephews, David Lee and Rusty Channon; nieces, Emily Colvert and Michelle Underwood; great-aunt, Laura Liggins; cat, Baby; dog, Boopskers; and a host of other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn Channon; brother, Randy Channon; and two infant sisters.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, September 13, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Julie will be laid to rest with her mother at Laurel Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
