Douglas L. Selim, 70, died Friday, September 7, 2012, at his home in Des Moines of natural causes. He was born April 2, 1942, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, to George and Dagmar Selim.
Doug attended both University of Iowa and University of Georgia after graduating from high school. He also served in the United States Army. Douglas was a member of the Alano Club through the White House, where he ran the kitchen. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and was a die hard Cubbies fan. Douglas retired from the United State Post Office after many years of service.
Douglas is survived by his daughters, Jenny (Roger) Bauer and Katy (Ed) Polich; grandchildren, Eddy Bauer and Gabe Polich; brother, Thomas (Arlene) Selim; and former spouse, Lorraine (John) Riseley; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jane Ratliff; and brother, Robert Selim.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2926 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines, with burial at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, at Lost Grove Cemetery in Lanyon, Iowa. Friends may visit with family one hour prior to service time at the church. Per his wishes, Douglas was cremated prior to services.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Alano Club/White House in loving memory of Douglas.

I grew up in Lanyon with the Selim's nearly 60 years ago. Have many happy memories of the Selim family. Most memories innvolve George, Tom, and Doug playing baseball after work. My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time. Bud and Donita Johanson
