Kathryn H. Reese
September 03, 2012
Kathryn (Katie) Reese passed away September 3, 2012, at Valley View Village in Des Moines, IA.
Katie was born in 1925 to Howard Hamill and Esther Nyren Hamill.
KTRN, as she was known to her many friends, began her nursing career in Des Moines at the Veterans Hospital, where she met the man of her dreams, Griff Reese, Jr. They were married in 1948 – a romance cut short when her “Dish” died in 1972.
Kathryn Ann Hamill Reese was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Martha Hamill.
Katie will be remembered by her sons, Griff, III, and wife Karen of Des Moines, and David and wife Barbara of West Des Moines and nieces Debbie (Lee) Nugara and Mary (Doug) Carper of Lincoln, NE. Katie touched gently the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews, fellow nurses and friends, and generations of students and their families.
Memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice, the Animal Rescue League of Des Moines, and Iowa Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary.
The family wishes to thank everyone at Valley View Village and Mercy Hospice for their kind and loving care.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial following at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Your mom was very good to all of the kids who spent a great deal of our childhood at your house. She has a big part in some of my happiest memories. Will always remember her, your dad, and both of you.

Dear Griff and Family,
It was with sadness that I read of Katie's passing. I know she had not been the Katie we all knew and loved lately, but still a loss. She was my rock when we worked together for so many years at Stowe School and I have many loving memories of her. Wanted you to know I am thinking of you all. Roz

I have fond memories of Aunt KT. I still remember the unique Christmas gifts from her in my childhood years. She was as unique as those gifts and I was inspired by her individuality. She was a very special person.
