LaVerne Ray Renaud was the second of five children that were born to James and Gladys (Elscott) Renaud. He was born on November 21, 1944, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School. At an early age, LaVerne accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal savior. LaVerne graduated from William Penn College in Oskaloosa with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.

On August 1, 1970, he was united in marriage with Nancie Keisling in Oak Park, Illinois. To this union two children were born: Brenda Kae and Todd Michael. LaVerne taught in the Albia Community School District for thirty-one years, and coached middle school basketball and football for several years during this time. After retiring from teaching, LaVerne was employed by John Deere Ottumwa Works as an Assembler for eight years. LaVerne enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching sports, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and maintaining his vehicles. On September 1, 2012, he passed away at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa.

Those left to celebrate his life of sixty-seven years are his wife Nancie, his two children and their families, and three grandchildren. They and their families are: Brenda (Alex Hebert) Renaud and Todd (Karen) Renaud and their three children: Connor, Dylan, and Madeline.

Of his original family, LaVerne leaves the following brothers and sister and their spouses: Marvin E. and Nancy (Waddle) Renaud, Elaine L. and Arie Scholten, Keith D. and Glenda (Huyser) Renaud, Dennis L. and Melanie (Baarda) Renaud. Of his wife’s family, LaVerne leaves three sisters-in-law: Kathleen Keisling, Joann (Mascari) Keisling and Pearl (Henderson) Keisling; a brother-in-law, Ken Keisling; along with numerous nieces and nephews. LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gladys Renaud; his parents-in-law, Woodrow and Nancie (Hrywnak) Keisling; a brother-in-law, Nelson Keisling; and two nieces Keisha Renaud and Dawn Keisling.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 7, 2012, at Berean Baptist Church, 314 County Highway T14 in Pella.

Arrangements will be coordinated by Hamilton Funeral Home of Des Moines.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa or the Amyloidosis Foundation.
