Lee Patterson, Sr.

Service Details

Lee Andrew Patterson the third passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Bright Kavanagh House, after a courageous eight-month battle with cancer. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Federated Church of Bondurant, 103 2nd Street SW, Bondurant, Iowa, on Saturday, September 8 at 12:30 p.m. A reception will follow.

He was born October 11, 1942 in Des Moines, to Dorothy Elizabeth Hargis Patterson and Lee Andrew Patterson, II. He was a Master Electrician and owner of PEC, INC., a company specializing in electrical contracting, until retiring at age 60. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 347.

He was an avid fisherman and excelled in archery. He liked to spend his time watching NASCAR or live local races, or outdoors fishing, hunting, or cooking bean soup by a backyard campfire. He most enjoyed spending time with family and friends by hosting bonfires, get-togethers, camping, meeting at the races, throwing darts, or belting out Johnny Cash or John Denver in his basement bar on the karaoke machine. He dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren; running foot races with them on Father’s Day, helping them to search for eggs at Easter, and helping them open gifts at Christmas and birthday parties.

He is best known by all for his sincere generosity. Many friends and family have sought advice from him, knowing he would provide a straight answer, whether it was good, bad, or ugly. He would help a friend in need at the blink of an eye and never expect repayment. He believed in living a simple life, filling it with friends and family instead of material things.

Many who knew him received a special nick-name from him. They were sometimes silly but were always meant as a term of endearment. Once you received a nick-name, your formal name was no longer. You became your nick-name in his eyes and he never forgot it, and neither did you. If you have one, you are probably hearing his voice saying it to you in the special way he did, right now.

He is survived by his children, Debra Sue (Michael) Danley, Cynthia Lee (Tim) Faucz, and Lee Andrew Patterson, IV; grandchildren, Morgan Elizabeth Danley, Kaitlyn Michelle Danley, McKaila Sue Danley, Michael Allen Danley; II, Alexander Cruise-David Faucz, Chloe Jordan Faucz, and Halee Brooke Patterson; and great-grandchild Remmington Payton Brown. He is also survived by siblings Joan (John) VanDrew, Sharon (Jim) Nelson, Susanne Patterson (Roy Palmer), John Patterson (Margaret), and Larry Patterson, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by infant son David Lee Patterson, his parents, Dorothy Elizabeth Hargis Patterson and Lee Andrew Patterson, II, and brother Robert James Patterson.
