James McDaniel
August 29, 2012
Jim McDaniel went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. He was born on May 8, 1947, in Des Moines, to Kenneth and Reva McDaniel and lived on the East Side most of his life.
He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1965 and was drafted into the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, serving in Alaska. He went on to attend and graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Science and Automotive Technology. After graduation, he worked at several trucking companies including four years at Mid Continent Bottlers, where he met Joyce, the love of his life and wife of 35 years.
After spending years enjoying his work as a truck driver and exploring the country on 18 wheels, he retired in May of 2011. He loved spending time with his family, especially his two grandkids. He loved reading books, listening to southern gospel music, and watching his kids in their various activities and sporting events.
Jim is survived by wife, Joyce of Des Moines; sons, James (Jamie Lynn) of Mitchellville, Jeremy (Alivia) of Grimes, daughter, Jennifer of Winterset; grandchildren, Gage and Kayden; sisters Jane McDaniel of Des Moines, and Arlene (Bert) Packer of Wyoming, Michigan; uncle, Howard Renaud of Pella, IA; aunt, Ruth Renaud of Pella, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Saylorville Baptist Church, 6429 NW 6th Drive, Des Moines, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, August 31, at the church.

Jim McDaniel was a sweet person in my life. I can still hear him calling me "Crash" after a few mishaps in my early driving years ;-)
Jim had a great sense of humor, was enjoyable to be around, even as a teen I respected Jim. He wasn't afraid to call things like he saw it, and be forgiving when asked.
Though it has been a few years since being home in Iowa, I will miss his presence when I am home. We feel his loss here, but heaven has gained another voice praising our Savior. It will be a joy to get to see him again there!!!

I remember Jim always had a smile and a hug for me each and every Sunday morning. I loved talking cars and mischief with him, he was always so jolly and helped me to laugh at the difficult situations. I know he is worshiping in the presence of Jesus who mercifully called Jim home and ended his struggles with his earthly body. Joyce, Jamie, Jeremy and Jenna, my heart aches with you but also smile knowing he is a child of God and lucky enough to see him face to face. I will pray for you in your grief and also for all of us still on earth missing him.

I have known Jim for so many years and have such a high regard for the type of man he was. He was large in life and always had such a gentle spirit. He loved people so much and wanted all to come to the saving knowledge of his Lord and Savior. It is with sadness that we say goodbye to Jim but it is only a temporary goodbye as we will soon be with him to rejoice around our Saviors throne. My sympathy goes out to Joyce and her family, along with Jane and Arlene. May God surround you with His love and peace.

There is SO much we could say in remembrance of dear Jim .. he was truly a brother beloved. OH how we will miss his phone calls every time he was in Southern California; he would always ask about the family, give us the up-to-date news and happenings of those in Des Moines whom we love so well, and on and on we could go, but last but not least, we are so thankful that Jim is home now, safe in the arms of Jesus and we are not saying 'Good Bye' .. just saying we will be there with you soon!!
Dear Joyce and family you are much on our heart and our prayers are with you that our precious Lord Jesus will be your constant companion in the coming days .. as He has promised .. "I will NEVER leave you nor forsake you."

In remembrance of a very old (long time ago) friend, whom I'd not seen for many years, but never forgot. So glad that you are resting "safe in the arms of Jesus!" My love and condolences to all of your family.
