Ly Ton

Ly Ton, 97, went to be with the Lord on Sunday August 26, 2012. She was born on February 18, 1915 to Hai and Tam (Nguyen) Ton in Saigon, Vietnam and moved to the Des Moines area in 1980.

Ly was an accomplished seamstress and an exceptional cook who enjoyed sharing this talent with her family. She had a passion for learning to speak English and French. Ly was a devoted and hard-working mother who unconditionally sacrificed for her children. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ly attended First Federated Vietnamese Church.

She is survived by her son, Ho Van Nguyen; daughters, Hue Nguyen, Sang Nguyen, and Thuy (Hai) Huynh; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and beloved friends.

Ly was preceded in death by her husband, Dan V. Nguyen; children, Huy Nguyen and Giau Nguyen; two brothers; and one sister.

A funeral service will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice in honor of Ly.
