Service Details

Max Foust Fruehling, 84, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 25, 2012. Max was born on September 25, 1927, to Harry and Mae Fruehling, and grew up on the family farm in Montrose, Iowa. He married Shirley Chance in 1948, after they met on the way to Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee, Illinois.

Max worked for many years as a barber in Fairfield, Iowa, including the campus of Parsons College, the current site of the Maharisi Institute in Fairfield. In 1967, the family moved to the Des Moines area where Max worked successfully as a car salesman until retirement. Max was a devoted husband, a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene, and a lifetime stalwart fan of the Chicago Cubs.

He will be sorely missed by his wife of 64 years, Shirley; children, David, Sandra, and Mark; his brother, Wayne; and his sister, Arlene Haner of Fort Madison.

Services will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., at First Church of the Nazarene, 4709 Douglas Avenue in Des Moines. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery on Friday, August 31, at 11 a.m.
