Gerda Caligiuri

Gerda Caligiuri, 68, passed away August 25, 2012, at Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines. She was born October 12, 1943, in Germany, to Johann and Anna Buettner. She worked for the American Cancer Society as a crusade coordinator.
Gerda is survived by her daughters, Tina (Jim) Bishop and Tanya (Mike) Yonker; grandchildren, Sarah, Austin, and Emily Bishop, and Maria and Michael Yonker; her sisters, Kathe Brice and Ida Winckler; four nieces and nephews and their children; and dear friend, Jim Caligiuri. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Hans.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 5625 Franklin Avenue in Des Moines, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Golden Circle, Hospice of Central Iowa, or the American Cancer Society.

We enjoyed knowing Gerda when we conducted services at Fleur Heights. She was a lovely lady and we enjoyed talking about Germany, as we lived there years ago. We also loved when she sang with us. Our prayers are with you all.
