George Hans

George Hans died most peacefully at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, on Wednesday, June 6, 2007. The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown in West Des Moines.
After growing up at Avon Lake, George earned a BFA in art education at Drake University. He headed an exemplary art department at Roosevelt High School for many years. He took great pride in the multitude of students who turned their creative talents into successful art careers.
George retired to devote time to sculptural pursuits and opened his popular 35th Street shop, The Pear Tree. This became a gathering place of friends he considered extended family, including Dan and Helen and his beloved lab, Miss Perkins.
He is preceded in death by his brother Gil Hans. He is survived by his niece and nephew Andrea and Adam; and his cousin, Evelyn Kleinlein.
