William Polson, 75, of Indianola, was born September 8, 1936, in Des Moines. He went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 15, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Polson, Sr.; mother, Florence Polson; brothers, Charles, Harvey, Maynard, Ronald, Wayne, and Kenneth; sisters, Maxine, Marilyn, and Donna; and his granddaughter, Monica Stout. William is survived by his wife, Karen; children, William, III, Edward, Robert, Rodney, Randy, Dewayne, and Terri Jo; brothers, Jerry, Danny, David, Jimmy, Paul, and Dennis; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; his precious dog, Foxy; and many other extended relatives and friends.

William served in the U.S. Navy and was on the aircraft carrier the USS Wasp. He started out working with his father in the grocery business, then the auctioneer business. William was an auctioneer for over 30 years. He was a member of Local 106 Carpenters Union, and served on the Des Moines City Council. William was also a real estate broker and a pilot. He loved helping people. William was a born-again Christian; he loved to serve the Lord and took great pride in the maintenance of the churches he attended. William will be missed by many and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 20, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
