Maureen Coash, 91, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at Bishop Drumm in Johnston. She was born August 3, 1921, in Des Moines, to Francis and Mary Frances Shepard.

Maureen graduated from North High School in 1939 where she was active in the Secretarial Club and choir. She then completed her nursing degree from St. Catherine’s School of Nursing in St. Paul, MN in 1943. Maureen had a lifetime career in nursing, with a passion to care for patients with polio, and eventually retired from Methodist Hospital in 1987. She was involved with quality control for Counted Cross Stitch, the All Saints choir, and was a member of Justo Hijo Magic Club along with her husband Mel. Maureen was a prankster and a matriarch, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Maureen is survived by her husband, Mel; children, Jerry T. (Meri), Loretta J. Stubbs, Bob (Julie), and Rick; daughter-in-law, Vicki; grandsons, Joshua Stubbs, Jerry Coash, Joel Stubbs, Jake Coash, and John Coash; great-grandchildren, Audri, Jack, and Grace; sister, Maxine Beldt. She was preceded in death by son, Jack; her parents; and ten brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Ave., Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, August 17, at the church, with a 7 p.m. rosary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to be designated to charities at a later date, in loving memory of Maureen.
