Gladys Lorraine Courtney

Gladys Lorraine Courtney, 92, passed away Monday, August 13, 2012, at Norwalk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born October 13, 1919, in Patterson, Iowa, to James and Nell (Brock) Salsbury.

Gladys graduated from Patterson High School. She married her husband, Don, on May 31, 1941. When he went into the Army, Gladys moved to Winterset and worked at JC Penney. After he returned, they settled in Norwalk where they raised their three children. Gladys was a long-time member of Norwalk United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Faith Circle, and the Firemen’s Auxiliary.

Gladys leaves behind her children, Susan (Jim) Brown, Kathy (Bob) Coughennower and Steve (Lori) Courtney; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margaret Huff; many nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Donald M. Courtney; her brothers, sister and parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 17, 2012, at Norwalk United Methodist Church, 1801 Sunset Drive, with burial to follow at Norwalk Cemetery. Family will greet friends starting at 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Norwalk United Methodist Church or Southern Care Hospice in loving memory of Gladys.
