Burton Sly, Sr.

Burton Henry Sly, Sr., 75, died Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Mercy Hospice Johnston. He was born August 24, 1936, to Henry and Mae Sly in Van Meter, Iowa.

Burt was a truck driver for Briggs Transportation and retired in 1984. He enjoyed sightseeing, fishing, snowmobiling, cruising on his Gold Wing motorcycle, and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting activities.

Burt is survived by his children, Gary Lee (Car) Sly of West Des Moines, Belinda (Brad) McAninch of Norwalk, and Burt Sly, Jr. (Lori Macy), of Des Moines; grandchildren, Julie Reynolds, Nick Sly, Shelby Sly, Brandon McAninch, Brittani McAninch, Brianna McAninch, and Burt Sly, III; and great-grandchildren, Cameron and Madelyn Reynolds, and Audrey Sly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Patricia Ann Sly.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with burial to follow at Waukee Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
