Service Details
Madeleine Carnes, 75, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center. In keeping with Madeleine’s wishes, private services are planned.
Madeleine was born October 21, 1936, in Des Moines, to Lawrence and Dora Colo. She was secretary to the Post Master at the main post office in Des Moines from 1974 to 1996. Madeleine’s greatest love in life was her family.
Madeleine will be deeply missed by her son, Michael (Rhonda) Carnes; grandsons, Jack, Michael (Randa), Shane (Amanda Brown); great grandchildren, Ava, Nolan; brother, Larry (Norma) Colo; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jack.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Christ the King Catholic Church in loving memory of Madeleine.

It's with a heavy heart I'm sharing thoughts with my beloved Carnes' family, Mike & Rhonda, Jack, Mike, Randa, Ava & Nolan, Shane & Amanda, and all the others out there. Broken hearts are so painful, yet there is no way around it when you lose someone as caliber as Madeleine, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Friend. I pray for all of you that the old saying " time heals all wounds" comes at GODS speed. Madeleine loved my daughter. Madeleine loved our grandchildren, and that's so special since not many children get to experience the love of a Great Grandma. I remember when Madeleine was sport enough to let Ava put makeup all over her face at a birthday party. I remember when Madeleine was so kind to me when I was lost. Meeting someone so beautiful inside and out is rare. Indeed I am privileged having known Madeleine Carnes! Infact, I want to be her when I grow up. I have to say I get a chuckle that she put down the rule on her burial. I'm getting my notebook together, and it's going to be just like Madeleine's!

Rest in peace my old friend.I will always remember the fun we had when we went to Las Vegas what great fun we had.Also the times we spent at my home and yours with our other friends and families.My thoughts are with you and your family Mike your mom was one of a kind
