Patrick Vincent Griffin, 84, was born March 20, 1928, in Monroe County, Iowa, the son of James and Rose (McGinn) Griffin. He passed away peacefully Monday, July 30, 2012, at his home.

Patrick retired from John Deere after 30 years of faithful service. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Army and was a member of VFW Post #9662. Patrick was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Above all else, Patrick enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Patrick is survived by his children, Theresa (Al Asman) Griffin, Jim Griffin, Bill Griffin, Ed (Kim) Griffin and Tom (Mikki) Griffin, all of Des Moines, Carol (Jim) Feathers of Joplin, Missouri, and Mary (Dave) Anderson of Redwood City, California; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Pauline O’Connor of Melrose; numerous nieces and nephews; other loving relatives; and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janet Griffin; sons, Paul and Frank Griffin; brothers, Raymond, Louis, and Manford; sisters, Bina, Frances, and Mildred; and his parents.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with a prayer service to be held at 7:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street, with burial to follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church or Mercy Hospice in loving memory of Patrick.
