Service Details
Margaret Owens, 89, died Sunday, July 29, 2012. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, with a visitation on Thursday, August 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday beginning at 11 a.m. prior to the service at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Margaret was born on January 3, 1923, in Sioux Rapids, IA, to George and Josephine (Munson) Johnson. Margaret began working for State Finance (now Wells Fargo) in 1942, straight out of business school. In 1949, she left her career to become a full-time mother and returned to work 2 years later. She retired in 1985. Margaret enjoyed traveling and volunteering with Iowa Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary.
She will be greatly missed by her son, David T. and his wife Anne Owens; grandchildren, Paul and his wife Renata Owens, John and Mark Owens; great-grandchildren, Janie and Sally Owens; and sister, Ardie and her husband Rollie Kruse. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dee Owens; sister, Leah Sanderson; and brother, John Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Health Home Care, c/o Hospice, 11333 Aurora Ave., Urbandale, IA 50322.

David, I just now located your mom on computer and have thought of her for years now. We went to A.I.B. together and were apartment mates for a few years. Had a happy life with her and we lost contact. So sorry now I cannot be in touch with her. Think a lot of our time together. Lorene Baran

My condolences to your family. Your mother/grandmother was such a dear friend and a true inspiration to all her friends at Jordan Creek United Methodist church. She was an active volunteer serving in the office and after worship and involved in women's group activities. She was such a blessing to her church family and personally to so many of us. She was so proud of her family and often shared highlights of their lives. I'll never forget her wonderful smile. Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathy to the Owens family. God's blessings to all.

I met Margaret at United Way when I worked with volunteers & she was one of the very best. Over the years I did see her but in the last 10 I lost tract & I am so sorry. She was one of the dearest people I have known & she spoke so often of her son & family. My deepest sympathy to David & his family.
