Randal Alan Short

Randal Alan Short, 59, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at Mercy Hospital, after a massive stroke at home. A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2012, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.

Randy was born on March 27, 1953, to Ronald and Marilyn Short. He graduated from Waukee High school in 1971. On July 30, 1976, Randy married Robin Reynolds. Randy and Robin met on the school bus as teens in high school, so perhaps they were destined to become a semi-driving team. They covered 48 states within a two-year period, and for five years drove from Des Moines to California every week while working for GSTC Trucking out of Walford, IA. Randy retired 4 years ago when his health began to decline. Randy was a family man for certain. He enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing, and his motorcycle. In recent years, he spent many hours on the golf cart with his grandson, driving the river trails near their home. The family also shared a friendly Cyclone/Hawkeye rivalry.

Randy will be greatly missed by his wife of 36 years, Robin; sons, Matthew (Stacie), Joshua (Sarah); grandson, Evan and another on the way; his mother, Marilyn; sister, Marcy (Ron) Roby; and brother, Russell (Teresa). Randy was preceded in death by his father, Ronald.
