Paul Sweet

Paul Harrington Sweet, 82, passed away from cancer at his home Thursday, July 19, 2012. He was born in St. Louis on July 23, 1929. Paul served in the military from 1950-1952 in Japan and Korea, prior to graduating from Washington University in St. Louis. He was employed by McDonald Aircraft, followed by a career with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 32 years as a manager in Public Relations. He retired in 1989.

Paul was very active with numerous hobbies throughout his life, including tennis, golf, boating, scuba diving, travel, and piloting small aircraft. He was also a professional photographer.

Paul is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jane McPhillips; sons, Dan (Mary) Sweet and their children Cody and Ashlyn, and Steve Sweet and his daughter, Michelle; sister, Shirley Gast; sisters-in-law, Beth (Jack) McConnell, Lynne (Doug) Petersen, Joanne (Terry) Nelson and Raye (Bob Enos) Eyrich; and other loving relatives.

Per his request, cremation has occurred, and the family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, followed by a brief prayer service at 4 p.m.
