Chade Gatlow Riak, 36, died Friday, July 6, 2012. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Chade was born in Akobo, South Sudan in 1975 to Gatlow Riak and Nyatoang Luak Lang. He attended Akobo primary and intermediate schools. When the civil war started in 1983, Chade, along with other Southern Sudanese children, went to Cuba. Upon returning from Cuba, Chade joined the SPLA – Red Army Division. As an officer, he fought many battles during the Liberation Struggle for South Sudan’s independence. Chade came to the United States in 1995. He visited Sudan twice after his immigration. Chade was on his way home when he died and he is now being considered for the rank of Colonel in the Southern Sudan Army. Chade was likeable and loveable and will be missed by all who knew him.

Chade is survived by his parents, Gatlow Riak and Nyatoang Luak Lang; children, Lujok Chade Riak and Achalla L. Chade Riak; sisters, Nyayien, Nyanguok, Nyakoang, Nyaluak, and Nyalith, all Gatlow Riak; brothers, Galiek, Gatluak, Wei, Boum, Thak, Gam, Goak, Thiecjang, Choul Sr., Choul, Jr., and Tiep, all Gatlow Riak; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
