Joe G. Miklus

Joe G. Miklus, 69, died Saturday, July 7, at Mercy Medical Center, from complications of pneumonia. He was born March 21, 1943, to Mike and Ada (Goode) Miklus in Des Moines.

Joe graduated from Saydel High School. He worked as a plumber for Local Union #33, receiving his 50-year watch, and was a project manager since 1987. Joe started running marathons at age 40, raised and trained Field Trial Labrador Retrievers, and was a member of the Mid Iowa Retrievers Club, the NRA, and Corvette Car Club.

Joe is survived by his children, Cindy (Buddy) Hicks, Joe Miklus II, and Michael (Anita) Miklus; step-daughter, Michelle (Doug) Parks; eleven grandchildren, Alexander, Christopher, and Gabriel Hicks, Kaitlyn, Mackenzie, Joe III, and Ada Miklus, Allajah, Michael II, Savannah, and William Miklus; brother, Bill Miklus; twin brother, Jon (Vickie) Miklus; sisters, Amelia “Mickey” Miklus and Daisy (Mario) Marcketti; sisters-in-law, Mary Miklus and Marian Emmack; brother-in-law, Kenny Purdy; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen; his parents; brother, Jack Miklus; sister, Bettie Purdy; and brother-in-law, Eldon Emmack.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m., Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, at the funeral home.
