Donald Boeckholt

Donald Boeckholt, 87, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2012, at the VA Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, July 13, 2012, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.

Donald was born July 16, 1924. He grew up in the Bancroft/Woden area, where he helped on the family farm. Donald served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Ruth A. Johnson on September 5, 1952. Donald was a union carpenter and helped restore the Iowa State Capitol in the 1960’s. He retired in 1978. Donald enjoyed fishing, camping and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; six children, Roberta Jackson; Dianne (Earnest) Prather, Marsha (Kurt) Hammer, Donald H. (Sarah) Boeckholt, Laurie (Steve) Draper, and Steven Boeckholt; grandchildren, Christopher, Brent, John, Stacy, Sommer, Autumn, Christine, Kevin, Drake, Brooklyn, David, Daniel, Melissa, Laurie Jo, Josh, Hannah, Sarah, and Benjamin; great-grandchildren, Taren, Kara, Aiyanna, Shanika, Jordan, Garrett, Gavin and Gabriel; great-great-grandson, Denzell, Jr.; brother, Harvey (Donna) Boeckholt; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Marie Boeckholt; brothers, Harold and Johnny Boeckholt; sisters, Edna Knowles, Elda Cushman, and Elinor Burch; and sons-in-law, David Jackson, Richard “Ron” LaPlante, and Robert Gonzales.
