Robert "Bob" M. Thompson

Robert “Bob” M. Thompson, 67, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1105 Grand Ave, West Des Moines. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bob was born September 1, 1944 to Robert and Eleanor Thompson in Vinton, Iowa. He graduated from Concordia High School in Minnesota and earned his BA at the University of Minnesota. Bob was the athletic director, teacher, and coach at Jefferson High School and currently was a teacher’s associate at Smouse Elementary School.

Bob had a passion for teaching and coaching. His greatest joy was his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife, Teri Hillman; children, Robert Clay (Amy) Thompson and Jennifer (Brian) King; step-sons, Neil and Nick Hillman; grandchildren, Ellie, Clay, Paige, Gwendolyn, and Emma; brother, Clay Thompson; sisters, Martha (Antonio) Turrent and Mary Thompson; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Mercy Medical Center that helped take care of Bob, especially Teri, Lindsey, and Pat.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, of which Bob was a member.
