Service Details

Wilma Liggett, 97, passed away Monday, July 2, 2012, at Mayes Center of Hope in Stuart, Florida.

Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be held Monday two hours prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Wilma Louise Dunham was born September 7, 1914, to Walter and Cora (Spicer) Dunham. Wilma grew up the 9th of 10 children, and graduated from Leon High School in 1933, before she was united in marriage to Charles Raymond Liggett. The couple made their home in Des Moines, and they were blessed with three children, Gene Liggett, Donald Liggett, and Sherry Cross-Mazzanti.

Wilma worked at Armour Packing, and later at Massey Ferguson for over 25 years before retiring in 1969. She was a 50-plus-year member of the Eastern Star North Gate Chapter O.E.S #417. Wilma was also a member of Wakonda Christian Church, before moving to Florida after Charles passed in 1993.

Survivors include her children, Gene (Ruby) Liggett and Sherry (Ron) Cross-Mazzanti; grandchildren, Judy (Bob) Hoffman, Pam (Timothy) Hoffman, and Courtney (Michael) Feener; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Smith; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and an infant son, Donald Paul Liggett.
