Service Details

Duc Rasavanh, 80, of Des Moines, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50313, at 6:00 PM on Friday, July 6, 2012. Visitation will be at 5:00 PM, July 6th.

Duc is survived by his wife, Gion Rasavanh; son, Thing Quang; daughter Bounthieng Vong (Pan); daughter, Viene Lam (Michael); daughter, Vilay Nguyen (Vinh); daughter, Lori Baccam (Thong); son, Michael Rasavanh; son, Tony Rasavanh; twenty grandchildren, Ying, Bobby, Fongh, Leng, Viana, Hong, Brandon, Bradley, Gabby, Adrienne, Viera, Selena, Lynn, Alyssa, Kat, Kayla, Kara, Malia, and Andyn. He was preceded by son, Taun.

Duc was born in MuongLa, Sonla, Vietnam, on May 24, 1932. He served as a captain in the Lao Royal Army; his last assignment was as a communication director for the Laos Embassy in South Vietnam until 1975. He and his family relocated to the United States in 1977, and chose Des Moines as their home.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and influential leader. He turned a negative to positive and never judged anyone - he was incredibly kind and gentle. Duc was honorable and well respected in his community which is why he served as President of Society Of Thai-Dam American Friendship, SOTAF, for many terms. He retired from RYKO in 1992 as an Electrical Technician.
