Kenneth Elmer Reed, Sr., 87, was born October 9, 1924, in Des Moines, the son of Andrew and Laura (Umbenhower) Reed. He passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center from complications of a stroke.

On February 9, 1946, Kenneth married the love of his life, Anna Louise Elifrits. He proudly served his country and was an Army veteran of World War II, as well as the Army National Guard. Kenneth was a Laborer/Foreman and retired from Meredith/R.R. Donnelley in 1988 after many years of faithful service. He was a member of Chesterfield Christian Church, and enjoyed the many years he worked the church’s tent at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Anna Louise Reed; children, Michael (LaJean) Reed, Sally (Jack) Dross, Kenny Reed, Jr. (Roberta Ochoa), and Kevin Reed; great-granddaughter Ashley Champlin who they raised; Tina Reed, daughter-in-law; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; other loving relatives; and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Ray Reed, grandson, Denny Reed, Jr., five brothers, three sisters, and his parents.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2012, at the funeral home, with graveside services to follow at 1:15 p.m., at Liberty Cemetery in Bussey, Iowa.
