Marie Evelyn Bachman

Evelyn Bachman, 96, died Monday, June 25, 2012, at her home in Des Moines. She was born March 28, 1916, in Plankinton, South Dakota, to Joseph and Bertha Herold.

Evelyn graduated from Johnston High School and then attended Drake University. On March 15, 1941, she married Oscar LeRoy Bachman. To this union, two sons were born, Warren in 1947 and Robert in 1949. She worked for the Polk County ASCS office for 26 years until her retirement. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling, her extensive collection of Picard China, and playing cards with her friends at Luther Park Apartments. She loved antiques and being involved in the Hudson Car Club with her husband. Evelyn especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Evelyn was a member of the Stover Memorial Church of the Brethren, Iowa Women’s Business Association, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and Ankeny Historical Society.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, Warren (Linda) and Robert (Kathy); six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Audra Archer; and many nieces and nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Bachman, her parents, and sister, Lois Faris.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with family from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 29, at the funeral home.
