John Jeffery
June 18, 2012
On Monday, June 18, 2012, J.W. Jeffery passed away from complications with cancer and other health conditions. He was a strong hardworking man his whole life. After his diagnosis 2 ½ years ago, cancer started taking its own course.
Born in Port Huron, Michigan, he moved to Des Moines when he was a young man, where he met the love of his life, his lovely wife Valeria Jeffery. They raised their children in Des Moines and were married for 57 years.
John “Jack” was a man of many hobbies which included fishing, being outdoors, spending time with his grandchildren and family, as well as working on cars and boats. He retired from Mitchell Transmission in the late 70’s, and started J & V Tree Service in the late 90’s.
He was a leader for his family, in his neighborhood and community, who could always be counted on. John “Jack” was a husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle, brother, cousin and friend to everyone. He was a father figure to three generations of his family and will be missed by all.
John “Jack” is survived by his loving wife, Valeria; his daughter, Beverly Moore (Steve Gilbert); grandchildren, Jamie, Larry (Mandie), Tony (Melissa), Sara (Brady), Bryan, Shawn, Shaleen and Shannon; 11 great-grandchildren, two of which he raised, Steph (Jordan), and Sam; eight brothers and sisters, Ken (Mary), Harold (Diana), Effie, Ellen, Irene (Ernie), Helen, Marylin, and Pam; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sons, Olan and John; and five siblings, Louie, Max, Gary, Lee, and Lorraine.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m., Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family in loving memory of John.

grandpa, that's what I've always know you as, even though I was never your granddaughter from 5th grade to about my junior year you were like a grandpa to me. I'll never forget when you picked me and Stephanie up from basketball and took off and I was only one leg in the car! We have a lot of great memories with you grandpa and you will be missed by so many, but you are now in such a better place, and I am so glad you are no longer in pain. With all these broken hearts left behind we now all have a great guardian angel watching over us! I love you.
