Robert Volz

Robert K. Volz, 75, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. The family will hold a visitation on Monday, June 18, 2012, from 10 am to noon at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines. A Memorial service will begin at noon. There will be a private burial at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery in Menlo.

Mr. Volz was born in Stuart, Iowa, and lived there until he was 16. After the death of his mother, Elsie, he moved with his father, Arthur and sister Shirley to Berkley, CA, where they owned and operated an auto service station. He returned to Iowa in 1956 to work as an auto mechanic until his retirement in 1998. During that time he also co-owned and operated V & V Automotive in Des Moines. Robert enjoyed the outdoors: fishing, boating, snowmobiling, hunting, camping with friends and family, and telling stories around the campfire.

Robert is survived by his long time companion and friend, Fae Miles, two daughters, Kimberly Egenberger (Matthew Hogan) of Ankeny and Rhonda (John) Kaale of Indianola, a son, Vince (Beth) of Gallatin, TN, a sister, LaVonne (Dean) Bower of Indianola, seven grandchildren: Austin Egenberger (Katie Melton), Joseph Volz, Noah Volz, and Anastacia Volz, Roxane Kaale, Rachel Kaale and Karl Kaale, and two great granddaughters; Lorelai and Isabella Egenberger.

He was preceded in death by his wife Trudy (Buttler), infant daughter Vickie, brother Duane Volz and sister Shirley Wall.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family.
