June 06, 2012
Elnora Emma McConnell, 90, went to be with the Lord June 6, 2012, at Edgewater Retirement Community. She was born April 30, 1922, in Milton, Indiana, to Charles and Zella (Petty) Marlatt. After World War II, Elnora was united in marriage to Robert A. McConnell. The couple was blessed with two children, Marc and Marla.
Ellie enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She delighted in clever word games and in jokes that she could share with her grandchildren. Although Ellie treasured friends, enjoyed history and current events, she especially loved children, and sought always to spend extra time encouraging and teaching children wisdom and moral truth. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Des Moines. She taught children’s Sunday school for much of her adult life. Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Survivors include her children, Marc McConnnell and Marla Quenzer, and a foster daughter, Bonnie Jo LaFeir; sister, Clara (Marlatt) Sowers; brothers, Carl Marlatt and Forrest Marlatt; grandchildren, John Quenzer, Sarah (Quenzer) Kornmann, Heidi Quenzer, and Natalie Quenzer, and great-grandchildren Alex Kornmann, and Ali Kornmann. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Robert.

Miss Ellie's family,
It was a joy and a priviledge to know Miss Ellie. I was Christian Ed Director at Zion while she taught Sunday School. She was an amazing woman! For a woman with poor eyesight, she had wonderful vision. I first wondered how well it would go in a room so full of busy active children, but she was a gift to the ministry. She had such a love for children and sharing God's love.
We loved her and enjoyed visits she made to our home. She loved Lyle's green chili pie and our Derek loved her snickerdoodle cookies. She often had a tin just for him!
Blessings and an abundance of God's grace, peace and love today and everyday as you morn her loss.

Marla and family....thinking of you and know He will provide comfort with the good memories through the years.....I enjoyed Miss Ellies humor and her tenacity...what other 90 year old would have a bucket list to ride in a hot air balloon and see Barry Manelow....she now had the ride of her life as she rises into the clouds on that day and maybe Barry taught the whole world to sing but we know that the angelic songs of heavens and earth can't match what this world offers...she loved that she had 2 Zion's...one in IN and in IA!!! I enjoyed a great valentine lunch with her and many meaningful prayers!!!! In His Love..Alyce
