Service Details
Janet Elaine Mathews, 65, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Funeral Services will be held 2:30 pm, Friday, June 8, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be 5 to 8 pm Thursday, at the funeral home.
Born November 20, 1946, Janet was the daughter of Donald and Darlene Berry. She loved camping and belonged to the Family Campers and RVers organization. After living in Des Moines for 47 years, Janet moved to Stanhope, Iowa, which is the home of Watermelon Day. Her hobbies included once being a member of 4H, bowling, the Red Hat Society, and she loved spending time with her children and furry grandbabies.
Janet is survived by her son, Joseph Mathews; daughter, Kay (Bryan) Dilks; two sisters; three brothers; many nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Your mom was truly one of a kind with a heart of gold. I will miss her smile & laugh so much but most of all Ill miss knowing that no matter what was going on in my lifebig or small she would be there for not only me but my family. I love you guys & will miss your mom dearly.

I was so, so sad to learn of Janet's passing. I saw her on December 30th when she attended the visitation for my sister, Stephanie, who had been a classmate and friend for years. It struck me how she hadn't changed all that much -- still had that little pixie face, great smile, infectious giggle. She was a good person, a good friend to Stephanie, and I'm sure she will be missed by all her family. My sincerest sympathies to you all.
