Jack Richard Beardsley, 83, was born March 31, 1929, in Des Moines, the son of Omar and Edna (Melby) Beardsley. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Sunday, May 27, 2012.
Jack graduated from Roosevelt High School and married Karin (Quick) Beardsley in 1959. He proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and was a Shriner and a Mason. Jack retired as Captain from the Des Moines Police Department after 36 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, animals, and his many fishing trips to Canada, as well as summer vacations at his condo in Clear Lake. Above all else, Jack loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his children, Kristin (Brian) Griffiths of Seattle, Washington, Kelly (Tim) Larick and Jack “Chip” (Renee) Beardsley, II; grandchildren, Anthony, Angela and Nicholas Ceretti, Jackie and Nathan Larick, and Ellizabeth and Sophi Beardsley; great-grandchildren, Gino and Gianna Burris; five nieces; and other loving relatives and many special friends. He will be met in heaven by his loving wife, Karin, brother, Bud Beardsley, and his parents.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Police Association and Recreation Center, which he and fellow officers built two times, or Iowa Health Hospice.
