Mary Ries Sargent

Mary L. Ries Sargent, 75, died peacefully Friday, May 18, 2012. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.

Mary was born May 17, 1937, in Iowa City, to Harold and Lenora Shoemaker. Most important in her life was her family. She was an excellent cook, and made pies at Mary Ann’s Pie Shop. Mary was a very giving person who enjoyed collecting clocks, lamps and dishes.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Debra (James) Turner; sons, Randy (Rhonda) Ries, Richard (Shauna) Ries, Jeff (Julie) Ries; eleven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry Shoemaker, Andy Powell; sisters, Marge Underwood, Rita Shoemaker, Val (Jack) Jeffries, Georgia (Mike) Dodge, Portia Green, and many nieces and nephews.
