Larry G. Young

Larry Young, 65, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center.
Larry was born September 12, 1946, in Des Moines, to Harry and Marylin (Lovell) Young. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was involved with Boy Scouts Troops #85 and #2. Larry had a passion for coaching children and was very involved with Grandview Little League. He was the Vice President of Local #86 Union- Graphic Communications. Larry retired from Meredith/RR Donnelly after 36 years of service. He loved boating, camping, Cardinals baseball, and Hawkeye football. Larry was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
Larry is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Larry (Frank) Young, Susan Young-Kellis and Robert (Jessica) Young; siblings, Rosalee (John) Driskill, Gary (Tina) Young; parents, Marylin and Ole Thompson; and his grandchildren, Skylar, Shelby, Ellie, Curtis, Lennon, Liam and Ian; other loving relatives and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Monday, May 21, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., Sunday, May 20, 2012, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grandview Little League or the Animal Rescue League, in loving memory of Larry.

Larry, Susan and Jr. Jr..I am so sorry for your loss. The measure of a man can be reflected in his children and what wonderful children you all are.

I can't believe I am writing this for Larry. We had such a wonderful time at Grandparents day with Ellie at the school Friday..when I said "Good-Bye" I never dreamed it was forever. Rest in Peace Larry, I'm sorry our friendsship was too short.

I still don't know how to take this, have just got to be friends with the 2 of you and want you to know that I believe we had become good friends, we'll leaving Sunday for NJ so If I don't see you I want you to know that I'm thinking of you.
