Phyllis Bryant

Phyllis Bryant, 88, passed away on May 14, 2012. Per her request, there will be an immediate cremation without services. Many thanks to Mercy Hospice in Johnston for their loving care.

Phyllis was born May 30, 1923, in Calendar, IA, to Martin and Emma Chinberg. She graduated from a country school and then from AIB in Des Moines. She worked as an executive secretary for several years in Des Moines and Fort Dodge, before becoming a homemaker and retiring in San Antonio, TX. Phyllis returned to Des Moines to be near her children after her health began to decline in 2007.

She was an avid golfer and played up until her late seventies. She loved to hear stories about her great-grandchildren and pass them on to her friends. Phyllis spent many hours looking at photo albums of their pictures. She was very proud of her grandchildren and their spouses; her legacy. Phyllis also had a passion for Bunco. She loved to win and always wanted to keep score. She was prim and proper and always meticulous of her appearance. Phyllis made friends easily and is leaving many cherished friendships behind.

In addition, she is survived by her children, Terry (Susan) Johnson, Karen (William) Lefler, William (Dorothy) Bryant, and Jolene (Steve) Davis; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Virginia Graham. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Bryant; her parents; and brother, Garfield Chinberg.
