Mike Wilson
May 11, 2012
Mikey Wilson was born on January 1, 1961, and died way too young at 51 in his sleep at home, from a heart attack on Friday, May 11, 2012.
Per his wishes he will be cremated, and a celebration of life and memorial ride will be held instead of a funeral.
Mike is survived by his wife, Melanie, brother, Pat, sister, Sharon, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and grandparents.
A memorial ride in Mikey’s honor will be held ending at the Marriott in West Des Moines, followed by a celebration of his life and fund raiser in the Grand Ballroom at the Marriott West Des Moines on Sunday, June 17, 2012. The time of ride is to be determined. We will post on Mikey's Facebook page with final details.
Mikey loved Harleys, his truck, their dogs Honey and Bubby, camping, fishing, hanging out with his friends, posting his favorite songs on Facebook, and he just loved life and never let anything stop him from living life to the fullest.
These are the words he lived by...
If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me?
For I must be traveling on, now
'Cause there's too many places
I've got to see'
Cause I'm as free as a bird now
Won't you fly high, free bird
Memorial contributions may be directed to Melanie in loving memory of Mike.

Mikey, you are the only person that I have known, and stayed in contact with, since we were 2 years old. We grew up on the same street, and you lived 5 houses up, on the opposite side. Even when you and Pat went to live with your grandpa Mike, and grandma Alice, we were always together, along with the Hasstedts, and all the other kids that lived on our street. We even started kindegarton at Douglas Elementary School the same time. I will miss you so much. I sure appreciated your calls everyweek, when my health started going downhill. It was so nice when you stopped by, and said hi, and that "hi" turned into hours of talking about all our childhood memories, and all the things that all of us neighborhood kids did, and wasn't suppose to do, lol. And we both talked about our dogs, as if they were our own kids. You met my new dog, Dolly, and of course I bragged about the 2 I had just recently lost. Told you I had them since puppies, and had them for 14 yrs., and you told me about your 2 dogs, and that they getting old, and I told you I was still seeing a therapist about losing Toto, and Scruffy. I think you were the only person, who truly understood, what your pets truly mean to a person, and just how much you love them, and after they are gone, you realized, you never knew you could love animals that much. I just found out about you on Tuesday, 6/26-12. Needless to say, I called mom and dad, and of course they were just as shocked as I was. Dad was such good friends with your grandpa Mike. I'll miss you dearly. R.I.P. Tell Toto, and Scruffy, I still love them, pet them for me, and I will see you all, on the other side, one day.
