Diana Holland
May 11, 2012
Diana Holland, 20, passed unexpectedly late Friday night, May 11, 2012, due to complications of Rett Syndrome. The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, at the church.
Diana is survived by her mother, Susan Strelecki of West Des Moines, Iowa; her maternal grandparents of Roswell, GA; along with uncles, aunts and cousins across the United States. She is now keeping company with her daddy, Phillip Holland.
Diana’s brain has been graciously accepted to be studied at Harvard Medical School, so we may find a cure for Rett Syndrome. We no longer own stock at Cracker Barrel, nor do we have any need to order dozens upon dozens of Krispy Kreme donuts, so please take up our slack! Please donate to www.mainstreamliving.org in Diana’s name for the new Knapp House, so every child has a place.
The family requests you wear bright, cheerful colors to the funeral to honor Diana.

How I wish I had met her, but I felt I knew her so well through you. I'm glad you shared all you did via email. I remember so many nights praying for you and Diana. It breaks my heart that one day you were so happy Diana had a permanent home, and so quickly things changed. God grant you peace through this hard time. I am so sorry.

Susan,
My thoughts have been with you constantly since your phone call on Saturday. Although I could not travel to Des Moines to be with you, I sat in silence this afternoon, remembering her smiling face and your constant support of your daughter. Remember that I love you and am always here for you. Just a phone call away. j

I was at Lotus Nails yesterday and heard a Mother talking about losing her daughter. I did not know any details, but a dear friend of yours (in a black sundress) showed me her "Walgreen" nails for only $7. You were with classmates of yours; and I could not get you off of my mind since I have one daughter also. I did not know at that time that you are a Lutheran Church of Hope member also.
May your family and friends help you through such a difficult time - praise God for giving her to you for 20 yrs. I wish you peace until you meet Diana again.

Susan,
As a Mom of a daughter with Rett, my heart aches for your loss of Diana. What a void there will be in your life. At the same time, I rejoice in her perfect body that is now free to dance and sing and praise God. May you recieve God's peace that passes our understanding. My prayers are for you.

I remember Diane well from when I worked in the Johnston Schools as a Speech Pathologist. She was a dear girl and a favorite of many of her fellow Dragon classmates. You have my prayers and sympathy.
