Gerald “Jerry” Evans, 79, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.
Jerry was born September 10, 1932, in Jackson Township (near Allerton), Iowa, to Wayne and Edith Evans. He moved to the Des Moines area in 1958, and was a school bus mechanic for Des Moines Public Schools for 30 years. Jerry was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church and Isaac Walton League. He enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling and watching auto racing.
Jerry is survived by his daughters, Peggy Evans, Denise (Scott) Charter and Cheryl (Rich) Stout; grandchildren Megan (Nick) Leo, Andy (Lindsay) Stout, Mandie (Mike) Smith; and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandy; and sister, Oneida Paton.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Alzheimer’s Association.

So many wonderful memories for me lie in Jerry and Sandy's home and their backyard. Every day I felt loved by both of them, and even after Sandy passed away that love continued on. Jerry attended both my graduation and wedding. He continued to follow my sister's and I's life, and continued to touch my heart.
My prayers go out to your family during this time, and while he's a very huge loss here he's a wonderful angelic addition! God bless your family!

I have so many fond memories at Jerry and Sandy's house. They were my second set of parents growing up. I remember Jerry's dry sense of humor. I also remember how much it meant to me when he came to my wedding even after Sandy had passed. I think of them often as I drive by the "other" house I grew up in. Please accept my deep regret for not being able to attend the funeral today. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. The world lost a good man this week. God Bless.

We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Stephanie & Tawnya just loved your Mom & Dad growing up. They both have such fond memories of the time they spent in your parent's home as young girls.

Dee, Peggy and Cheryl- I will always think of your Dad and Mom as my 2nd set of parents while growing up. They were awesome people. My heart goes out to you all during this time of pain. Any time I drive by the old Lucas I always would look down the street at your Dad's house and memories would flood back. Keep strong.
