Service Details
Larry D. Allen, 80, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 4, 2012, at Mercy Hospital. Per his wishes, his body has been cremated. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Pine Hill Cemetery.
Larry was born November 4, 1931, to Dorothy (Evans) and Gifford Allen. He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1950. He retired from John Deere as an electrician after 30 years of service. Larry was very skilled at building things and using his hands and he loved splitting firewood.
Larry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Allen; children, Ronda (Bill) Davis and Collin (Julie Hanifen) Allen; and grandchildren, Heidi (Anthony) Lucia, Heather (Josh Saboe) Garcia, Angela Allen, and Mark Allen, Jr. He is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Mark Allen, Sr.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Animal Rescue League in memory of Larry.

Dear Allen family,
Please accept my deep regrets for your loss. Death is a enemy and brings only pain and grief which I felt also when I lost my whole family to it but I found hope and comfort from what Gods word the Bible says at John11:11 and Mark5:39 that they'er just asleep and Jesus states at John5:28,29 that I'll see them again and this is what helps me get through each day because I miss them so much. I do hope that by your reading these scriptures in your Bible that you'll find hope and comfort also for this is my purpose in sharing this with you for no doubt you miss your loved one also. I worked with Larry at John Deere for a good many years. I have so many good memories of the time spent with him. He always had a way to brighten your day and look at things a little differently. My condolences to the family.

We always appreciated Larry's love for animals and the special treats he would bring for the homeless pets at the ARL. Larry will be missed. Barb, we appreciate the cat snuggles too and our sympathies are with you.

I worked with Larry at John Deere as an electrician apprentice. He was a great person to work with and just to be around. Sorry to hear about his passing.
