John E. Himrich, 66, died peacefully at home on Sunday, April 29, 2012. A memorial mass will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, May 3, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. A visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
John was born January 19, 1946, in Des Moines, to Leo and Anna Marie Himrich. He was an Army veteran and worked as a dispatcher for the Norfolk Southern Railroad. John’s interests were always centered around his family.
John is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Brandie and Dustin Gean; son, Jeff and Missy Himrich; grandchildren, Alyssa and Hank Himrich; and sister, Vicki Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to give special thanks for all those who assisted in his care, including On with Life, Wesley Acres Adult Day Center, New Horizons Adult Care Center, and all those who provided prayers.

It's been a long road for all of you and what love, mercy and grace you offered to John these last 15 years. Jeff, Linda, Brandie and family,
I'm so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I have a lot of fond memories growing up playing at your house and having John as a baseball coach. My most treasured memory is when he encouraged me to play first base and knowing I couldn't afford a first base glove, he bought me a brand new one. I still have that ball glove to this day.
