May Phetpriyavanh

May Phetpriyavanh was born on January 1, 1924, in Bao Tha, Tha Seng, Meung Som Thai, Quang Houapan Province, Laos. She was married to Phom Phetpriyavanh, and they had five sons together. Their names are: Bounhom (Des Moines), Bounhao (deceased), Davone (Des Moines), Thanouthong (Laos), and Somnouk (Des Moines). May also has 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

In 1949, May and Phom moved from Somhao to Ban Nathong, Quang Houopan. Then, in 1957, they moved to the capital of Laos, Vientiane. In 1980, she and her family escaped from Laos to a refugee camp in Thailand. After one year at the camp, in April of 1981, she and her family flew to America and found a permanent home in Des Moines, Iowa. She was able to live a long and healthy life up until 2005, when her health began to deteriorate. May Phetpriyavanh passed away on April 20, 2012, at 5:00 a.m. in the morning.
