Marjorie Elaine Lyons

Marjorie Elaine Lyons, 95 of Des Moines, has gone to be with the Lord on April 18, 2012.
Marjorie was born on May 18, 1916, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, the daughter of Fred and Glendora Whitlock. She came to the United States at the age of 12, and became a U.S. Citizen in 1957. She graduated from Roosevelt High School. Married Thomas Andrew Lyons on April 18, 1943. Marjorie worked for Bekins Van Lines for 30 years, sold Avon Products, worked at Moo’s Ice Cream & Tanning Salon, and her last job was a greeter at the Altoona Walmart until the age of 90. She was a member of Grace Church. For the last 16 months she was a resident at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa. Her hobbies were being on a bowling league with her friends and the enjoyment of all her family activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Whitlock; husband, Thomas “Jay” Lyons; and son, Michael Fred Lyons. Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Jim) Dearden; son, David Lyons; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Grace Church, 4200 E. 25th Street, followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Marjorie to be designated at a later date.
Our deepest appreciation to the Sunnyview Care Staff and Iowa Health Hospice for their endless hours of loving care given to our mother during her final days.

I am so sorry to read this death. I so wanted to connect with my Dad's favorite uncle Fred's (Whitlock) Family. From documents I know that Dad knew his uncle for 10 short years but always spoke of him.
