Richard “The Mayor” Aguiniga, 53, passed away Friday, April 13, 2012, at Taylor House Hospice.

Richard was born June 25, 1958, in Des Moines, to Primitivo and Rose (Rodriguez) Aguiniga. He was the head tailor for Reichardt’s and Midwest Clothing for 33 years.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Linda; children, Richard (Jackie) Aguiniga, Tina (Brad) Wharff , Eric (Kirsten) Aguiniga and Justin (Megan) Aguiniga; grandchildren, Jalen, Jace, Joci, Desmond, Kaysey, Ali, Jaxon, Brecken, Brynlee; siblings, Rosalie (Richard) McCoy; Primitivo John Aguiniga, Jr., George (Sheldon) Aguiniga, Ramona (Dennis) Fritz, Martha (Kenny) Fritz, Janice (Ron) Bagley, Janet (Jeff) Cole, Beatrice (Dennis) Negrete and Mary Parades; his dog; Boston; a host of nieces, nephews and other extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gloria Fritz; brothers, Robert and Raymond Aguiniga; and mother-in-law, Gertrude Kelderman.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 8th Street SW in Altoona. In honor of Richard the family asks for guests to wear their favorite Hawkeyes, Bears, or Cubs attire to the visitation. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the church, followed by burial at the Altoona Cemetery.
