Service Details
Victoria A. Hammer, 94, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Calvin Community, where she resided for over 10 years. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Immanual United Methodist Church, 2900 49th Street, Des Moines, IA, at 11:00 a.m. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
Victoria was born October 26, 1917, to Della (Robbins) and Frank Hybl in Colfax, IA. She attended school in Colfax and Newton, and then married Wayne Hammer. Together they raised their family in Des Moines. Victoria later worked at Hillis Elementary and was an active member of Immanual United Methodist Church for 50 years.
She will be greatly missed by her son, Wayne (Donna) Hammer, Jr.; daughters, Mary Lou (Phil) Wieting and Sue (John) Pierson; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, John (Elizabeth) Hybl. Victoria was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 6 siblings.

I am writing on behalf of my father, David Hammer and my brother and sister, Julie Hammer and David Hammer 2nd.
It was a lovely service and it was very good to meet actual relatives of mine! I remember great Aunt Vicky from a few family functions in the early 1960s when I was a little girl. My mother, Audrey (who passed last December) always called her Vivacious Vicky. She was always a delight to be around. She was bubbly and interested in what we children thought of things. I recall a lot of laughter and hugs from both her and Uncle Wayne.
I always thought she was quite glamourous with her bouffant hairdo and lipstick. I also remember her wearing bracelets and letting me try them on. My mother enjoyed all her Hammer In-Laws but was especially fond of Vicky. Probably because they shared the same happy spirit and love of children and humor.
We lost another member of our Hammer Family last month when Charlie's wife, Juana died. I know that Wayne and Vicky and Juana and Charlie are all together again and I am glad for that.

My condolences to the entire surviving family of Vicki Hammer. I know what you are missing. As a very young insurance agent under Wayne's wing at American National Insurance back in 1968 I spent many an hour in their kitchen drinking coffee and being molded by them both. A great lady has passed away, but her's and Wayne's mentoring has not been forgotten.

Dear Family of Aunt Vicki: Our hearts go out to you during this sad time. Vicki was a great lady who always welcomed us with smiles and hugs. We so enjoyed visits with her at Calvin Manor when we visiting in town. We are thinking of all of you today for she was loved and will be missed.

We are former members of Immanuel now living in Jackson, Wi. I have many fond memories of Vicki at birthday celebrations and Adah Circle.
