Larry Charters, 78, was born December 5, 1933, in Onarga, Illinois, the son of Andrew and Ella Mae (Sheets) Charters. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Saturday, April 7, 2012, at his home.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley Charters; children, Pamela (John) Kontrik of Indiana, Timothy E. Charters and Todd (Dodie) Charters; grandchildren, John Paul, Tiffany Ann, Ryan Eugene, Justin Eugene, Timothy Eugene, Jr., Allyssa Marie, and Brandon Patrick; great-grandchildren, Draven, Savannah and Ciena; brother, Jack (Barbara) Charters; other loving relatives and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Del, Bud, Andrew, Vincent and Del Eva, as well as his parents.
The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona, where military honors will be provided at 6:30 p.m. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Schererville, Indiana.

Aunt Shirley, I have thought about you a lot over the past few days. I wish we were able to travel to pay our respects to Uncle Larry. We have gotten one our 2.5 year old triplets home after a 28 day stay at the hospital as she recovered from pneumonia and follow up care is still required here at home. Uncle Larry was a wonderful man and I know that you will miss him. We will keep you in our prayers.

Shirley & family:
Our deepest sympathy to you all. We are deeply saddened by your loss and ours as well.
We will truly miss our visits and waves from Larry. Our family cannot imagine our street without
Larry giving us a wave, a hello or telling us the news on our block. Jon and I are feeling your loss today with heavy hearts. We have enjoyed having our sidewalk talks. He will truly be missed.
