Zack Smith

Zack J. Smith, 82 passed away May 22, 2007 at Kavanagh House on Grand. He was surrounded by all of his family when the Lord opened the gates to Heaven and took him in to his arms.
He lived his life well, teaching his children and grandchildren many things such as riding horses, playing ball, gardening, driving and loving the Lord. Zack was born in Adel on January 8, 1925 to Jennie (Gross) Smith and Zachariah Smith. Zack grew up in Adel and attended Adel High. He played football and baseball. He joined the Navy during WWII and then later became a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars post number 738. Zack worked for Firestone in Des Moines for 33 years.
Zack is survived by his wife Donna; his daughter Goldie and her husband Alan Hokanson, son Zack R. and his wife Denise Smith, son Rod Smith, daughter Deb Miller and daughter Christina and her husband Chad Dale; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Thank you to all the staff at Kavanagh House for making his last days peaceful.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Glendale Cemetery.
