Viola Marie Brown, 83, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away Tuesday March 27, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Viola was born November 12, 1928 in Reynolds, North Dakota to Harold and Elizabeth Hodson. She married Wallace Arthur Brown on September 6, 1958 and had four sons. Viola worked 14 years as an administrative assistant for the Property Tax Division of the State of Iowa. Once Kelly, the oldest son, was born, Viola remained at home to raise her four boys. Viola loved gardening and flowers and she was constantly outside tending to the gardens and yard. She was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan and rarely missed a game on TV. Viola was also a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Viola is survived by her husband of 53 years, Wallace Brown; sons, Kelly (Melanie), Brad (Janet), Corey (Diana), and Gary; sisters, Laverne and Carole; brothers, Vernon, Harold, Gale, and Dean; her grandchildren that she loved so well, Brett, Shannon, Dylan, Kyle, Kayla, Sydney, Landon, and Preston; and a host of other family and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Coleen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Blvd, with burial to follow at Altoona Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
