Elsie LeMar

Elsie LeMar, 94, passed away March 27, 2012 at Valley View Village. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 30, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial to follow at Rising Sun Cemetery. Visitation will occur from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Elsie lived in Des Moines most of her life. She worked for Rollins Hosiery Mill and later opened Elsie’s Beauty Shop, which she operated for many years before her retirement. Elsie was a member of the Church of Christ on Dean Avenue. She enjoyed and embraced her life and the many people she met over the years.

Elsie was the last survivor of 12 children. She was preceded in death by her six brothers; five sisters; her parents; and her husband Alvin Donald LeMar, Sr. She is survived by her children, Martha (Dennis) Wagner and Alvin (Linda) LeMar, Jr.; grandchildren, Chris (Dora) LeMar, Brian (Debbie) LeMar and Ryan (Renee Militello) Wagner; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the John Stoddard Cancer Center and Ronald McDonald House.
